Professional ice carvers Karlis Ile (left) and Maijae Puncule, from Latvia, carve six 300 lb. blocks of ice into an 8 foot tall sculpture of a rooster at the Edmonton International Airport on January 23, 2017. The one-of-a-kind ice carving celebrates the Chinese Lunar New Year (Year of the Rooster), which begins on January 28, 2017. This first ice sculpture will kick off Edmonton’s Ice on Whyte Festival, held over weekends, January 26 to 29, and February 2 to 5 at End of Steel Park in Old Strathcona.
